Clothing & Outdoor Gear Policy OUR GOAL IS TO KEEP CHILDREN COMFORTABLE SO THEY CAN ENJOY THE EXPERIENCE OF PLAYING AND EXPLORING OUTDOORS NO MATTER THE WEATHER. We are able to accommodate some allergies, gluten free, dairy free, or vegetarian and vegan diets as we cook or sample foods. Check out this link to the Waste-Free Lunch. This is meant to give you a more accurate idea of what your child is consuming each day and to create an awareness of excess packaging. This means that all uneaten foods and leftover packaging will be sent back home in your child’s lunch box at the end of the day (with the exception of food scraps that can be added to our school compost). We are working towards becoming “garbage free” during lunch time. Reheating is not available, instead we recommend a good quality thermos to send soup or hot meal items. ![]() We encourage whole foods and limited processed foods when possible. We’re mindful about helping children learn about foods that are nourishing for their bodies. Parents/guardians are required to provide a packed lunch each day. During the meal, we model and practice a silent start and then quiet conversation, mindful eating and kind table talk.ĭuring the summer we offer a cooking activity included in many of our day camps! Packed Lunch Guidelines Teachers eat with the children at snack and lunch time. Children entering third grade plan our garden for the following year with adult help since gardening is an integral part of the third grade curriculum. Whenever possible we include native foods in the curriculum such as corn, squash, and wild rice. During these times, children will participate in recipe reading, measuring and trying new foods. Examples from our curriculum include vegetable soup and pumpkin soup, baked apples, popcorn over the fire, bread baking, pancakes and crepes, trying figs and dates, wild rice and blueberries, roasting pumpkin seeds over the woodstove, and more!Ĭooking is integrated into our curriculum each session, and we do several food preservation projects in the fall. Our snack often correlates with “Baking Day” or “Soup Day” in the Apfelhaus (Preschool and Kindergarten). We encourage eating seasonal and local foods whenever possible, and the Baumhaus (1st - 3rd grade) curriculum includes cooking and sampling cultural foods. FOOD At Apple Blossom Village, we value healthy eating!ĭuring our school year program, we offer a healthy and hearty morning snack or zweites Frühstück (German for Second Breakfast) everyday to the whole school. ![]()
